Samantha Anderson is a Senior Project Officer with the International Centre for Sustainable Cities (ICSC), a non-profit organisation headquartered in Vancouver, Canada whose mandate is to catalyse action on urban sustainability in cities around the world through practical demonstration projects, peer learning networks and high profile events. Samantha holds two Masters degrees, one in East Asian Studies and one in Urban Planning. Her first M.A. from
McGill
University
involved a year of fieldwork in the Chinese countryside looking at the revival of religion in the reform era and its relation to the status of women. Later, she was the Research and Marketing Manager at a multinational real estate company in
Beijing
for two years before returning to
Vancouver
to complete her second Master’s at the School for Community and Regional Planning at the
University
of
British Columbia
. While in
China
, she also worked on projects related to heritage preservation and for UNICEF’s Children in Need of Special Protection Program. Her areas of interest include local economic development, local government capacity, periurbanization, the ruralurban interface, migration, heritage preservation, gender, resilient communities and long-term planning. At ICSC, Samantha works primarily on the Sustainable Cities: Partners for Long-term Urban Sustainability (PLUS) Network. PLUS is a Network of cities from around the world engaged in long-term planning for urban sustainability.
